British Rock Legends ASIA Return With 2010 North American Omega Tour
When ASIA, acclaimed British rock super-group, reformed in 2006 for the first time in 23 years, no one in the band knew how long the reformation would last. They were committed to a tour, but nothing after that was etched in stone.
Nearly 5 years later, ASIA has released Omega, its second studio album since it regrouped, and have embarked on its fifth successful world tour. But, here is the real kicker: the original members of ASIA have now been together longer than when they originally burst onto the music scene at the beginning of the 1980s!
On August 2, ASIA will kick off its fifth North American tour since its 2006 reformation at The Zeiterion Performing Arts Center, in New Bedford, MA. The 29-city tour will conclude on September 8th at The Moore Theatre, in Seattle, WA. The concerts will feature an all-new light show, and an exciting mix of ASIA standards and hits, as well as selections from OMEGA.
The new album, a stunning blend of the classic ASIA sound with a number of compelling and innovative NEW musical ideas, has been released on Frontier Records.
"It's a collection of songs, from the rocky, strident opening of 'Finger on the Trigger' to the wistful 'Thank You.'" says vocalist/bassist/acoustic guitarist John Wetton. "As for our audience... in 'Don't Wanna Lose You Now', it's talking to you, the listener. (Omega) gives you a sequence of real stories; stories that actually happened. The stories are set in a fairly lush, sophisticated production of what ASIA is known for, concise, mature rock songs without the gratuitous meanderings of our Alma Mater."
"This is something very sweet," says guitarist Steve Howe of both the reunion and the band's ongoing commitment to keep making new albums. "I am liking it very much. It came at the right time for me." Adds ASIA keyboardist Geoff Downes: "The band today is better than it's ever been. The response from fans and critics has been very good, and that is always encouraging."
ASIA's 2010 Omega World Tour, has brought the band to The UK, Japan, and Europe and will now take them to The United States. Also in production is a feature documentary film, which will give its fans an extremely candid behind-the-scenes look at the band, its music, and its enduring legacy.
Says drummer Carl Palmer, "ASIA is the last of the original bands that plays this style of music. I won't go through all the bands that haven't got original members, but we all know them. ASIA probably stands up as being the last of its kind, really,... and unique because of who is in it. The people who are there and who are original members have such an interesting history and which other groups never had in the first place. We are kind of unique and the last of...So, long live ASIA."
The group came together in the spring of 1981 around bassist and vocalist John Wetton who had been in King Crimson, Roxy Music and UK. With the help of manager Brian Lane, he wanted to form a new group with guitarist Steve Howe, best known as the axeman for British Prog superstars, Yes. Drummer Carl Palmer came into the fold next, having just completed a decade of platinum releases and sold out tours with Emerson, Lake & Palmer. Keyboardist Geoff Downes, who replaced Rick Wakeman in Yes for the Drama album, had previously been half of the pop duo The Buggles. They stormed the charts in 1979 with the timeless classic "Video Killed The Radio Star".
ASIA's debut album exploded onto the music scene in March 1982 with several Top 10 singles and sales exceeding 15 million copies. It launched hits such as "Only Time Will Tell," "Sole Survivor" and "Heat Of The Moment." ASIA became one of the most played acts during the first year of MTV. Throughout most of '82, ASIA ruled the radio airwaves and MTV. They sold out every date on its tour, and the debut album crushed all the competition at record stores around the world. It was indeed the biggest selling album in the world in 1982.
"I would like to stress that despite the title, 'Omega' doesn't mean the end," says Wetton. "In many ways, it signifies a beginning. Only time will tell."

BUCKCHERRY HELPS VICTIMS OF OIL SPILL CATASTROPHE; DONATES PROCEEDS TO NRDC'S GULF COAST RECOVERY FUND
BUCKCHERRY HELPS VICTIMS OF OIL SPILL CATASTROPHE; DONATES PROCEEDS TO NRDC'S GULF COAST RECOVERY FUND
NEW VIDEO FOR "OUR WORLD" PREMIERES ON LARRY KING LIVE.COM
(New York, NY) - Last week rockers Buckcherry announced that a new version of the track "Our World," from the forthcoming album ALL NIGHT LONG, would be made available for purchase as an iTunes exclusive with all of the band proceeds from the sales to aid victims of the oil spill - both human and animal. The band is proud to announce that with the help of Natural Resources Defense Council's Gulf Coast Recovery Fund all proceeds will go directly to Gulf Coast non-profit groups working on the frontlines to help people, wildlife and fragile ecosystems recover from the disaster. The Natural Resources Defense Council is a national, nonprofit organization of scientists, lawyers and environmental specialists dedicated to protecting public health and the environment. Founded in 1970, NRDC has 1.3 million members worldwide.
Buckcherry frontman Josh Todd commented, "The song touches upon environmental crises that plague the world every day. A few weeks after writing and recording the song, the oil spill occurred. We recently went back into the studio to re-write the lyrics based on what was happening in the Gulf. We released this version exclusively on iTunes and are donating the proceeds to NRDC to help aid those affected by this disaster."
Since the spill occurred, NRDC has been at the forefront of efforts to ensure this type of catastrophe never happens again. NRDC has had a rapid-fire response team on the ground in the Gulf documenting the environmental impacts of the oil spill and advocating for local communities. NRDC attorneys and scientists are working to hold BP accountable for the damage it is causing. The organization is also working to make sure the Obama Administration and Congress is doing everything possible to create touch new safeguards that will defend our coastal waters from more disasters and rein in damaging practices by the oil industry.
"Our World" was originally written as an anthemic cry out to help right the social, environmental, economic and other wrongs of this world. The band reworked the lyrics to represent their commitment to expose the BP disaster and to bring awareness and support to the crisis and its victims. The track was rewritten and recorded for this unique and unfortunate situation.
In order to further illustrate the magnitude of the situation, Buckcherry has posted a powerful new video for the song, which documents the timeline and terrifying facts about the disaster. The video just made its premiere on the Larry King Live website last night:

Buckcherry's new album, ALL NIGHT LONG is set for an August 3rd release via original independent label, Eleven Seven Music. The title track has been called "The top down anthem" by BILLBOARD. In their more than decade-long career, multi-platinum artists Buckcherry have established themselves as a definitive hard rock band with a massive presence at radio. Hits such as "Lit Up," "Crazy Bitch," and "Sorry" have propelled the band's sales to more than 3 million albums worldwide and have garnered Buckcherry two Grammy nominations. Their most recent album, 2008's BLACK BUTTERFLY, earned the band their first-ever Top Ten Billboard album debut, with the album coming in at #8. BLACK BUTTERFLY was deemed the "Album Of The Year" by Entertainment Weekly and "Best Rock Album" by iTunes.
"Our World" lyrics:
Lately I've been thinking
About how we live our lives
There are too many conflicts
'Cause no one sees eye to eye
And now the world is changing
We got pollutants in the sea
We keep on fighting for oil and killing in the Middle East
(Chorus)
This is our world
To make it last
We have to not repeat the past
Just step outside
When will we learn
The destruction of our world. Our world
If all we have is one life
And you're never coming back again
Would you look at what we've done as a beginning Or an end
When I feel the sunlight
I wonder how much my world can take
We must do something now with so many lives at stake
(Chorus)
This is our world
We must give back
Instead of killing what we have
So look inside and spread the word
If you want to save our world
I'm standing up
I've had enough
I'm sick and tired of just waiting
Our world corrupt,
So out of touch,
Our world how do I save her
How do I save her?
How do I save her?
How do I save her?
(Chorus)
This is our world
We must give back
Instead of killing what we have
So look inside and spread the word
If you want to save our world

Hughie Thomasson (The Outlaws, Lynyrd Skynyrd) Interview from the Archives
Hughie Thomasson, founder/guitarist/singer for the Southern Rock group The Outlaws, who recently reunited for a tour and new upcoming cd, and former guitarist for Lynyrd Skynyrd, passed away suddenly as a result of a heart attack at his home late Sunday night. Funeral arrangements are pending at this time. Hughie joins an ever increasing list of Southern Rock musicians who have passed away in recent years.
I've had the pleasure of interviewing Hughie through the years...most recently was about a month and a half ago for the North Coast Voice magazine in North East Ohio (Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula Counties). Hughie was one of the nicest musicians out there and will sadly be missed. I thought I would pass along my last interview with him.
The Outlaws recently played before a rabid audience of 40,000 people at this years installment of the Jamboree in the Hills in Southern Ohio. A few pictures that accompany the article are from their performance there. You can check out the Outlaws for yourself on Aug. 11 when they headline the Buffalo Hollow Music Festival/Bike Ralley/Swap Meet, which is located in Petersburg, OH (A little South of Youngstown, OH near the PA line). Hughie Thomasson phoned in for an interview to preview the show.....
North Coast Voice - Why did you decide to leave Lynyrd Skynyrd and start up the Outlaws again?
Hughie Thomasson - I played with Lynyrd Skynyrd for 9 years. I made a few records and dvds with them. It was a great 9 years and I love those guys to death. It was time for me to sing again. I was more of a guitar player with Skynyrd and not a singer. To be honest with you - I miss singing and playing the Outlaws songs. The way I look at I'm really lucky because I've been able to play with the 2 best bands in the world. I'm totally blessed.
NCV - Do you think that being a member of Lynyrd Skynyrd helped to maintain the profile of the Outlaws?
HT - I don't know. It might have. The Outlaws records were still on the racks the whole time I was with Skynyrd. We would go to the stores to make sure they had Skynyrd product. I would check out the Outlaws section and there was still Outlaws product there. I like to think that Outlaws fans and Skynyrd fans are one in the same. The Outlaws and Skynyrd toured together back in 1975, '76, and '77 - right up until the time of the plane crash. We played together, got to know each other and became friends. When I went to play with Skynyrd, it wasn't like I was going to play with strangers.
NCV - Now since you reformed the Outlaws, you have hit the touring circuit pretty heavy, which is pretty cool I think.
HT - Yeah man. We've been working hard at it. We're staying out and playing. This is it. We have no plans of hanging it up. We love doing what we do. This lineup of the Outlaws is a real solid lineup and I believe it's the best lineup we've ever had.
NCV - The Outlaws are about to release a brand new studio cd. Do you want to share with us what we can expect on the release?
HT - The cd is called ONCE AN OUTLAW and it is a collection of 13 songs of what you would expect to hear from the Outlaws. If you're familiar with any of the old Outlaws songs, you will be happy with these songs. We are going to be putting it out ourselves because in this day and age you really don't need the big labels behind like you did in the past. Unfortunately, you needed the big labels back in the day because that's how the music industry was ran back then. The downside to that is that there were alot of great musicians who put out great music back then, but they never made any money - the labels made the money. So, with that in mind, we're free to do what we want, when we want, how we want to do it, and we don't have to answer to any record label holding their hand out to recoup their money. I did the production work on the cd and that's something I also really enjoy doing. I like being on the other side of the glass when we are in the studio. I also try to help out other bands by producing their projects as well. I really enjoy the process of taking a band and making them sound really good. If I can help a band out in that capacity, that really makes me happy.
NCV - I'm going to drop out a few Outlaws hits from the past and you hit me back with any thoughts you might have on that particular song...let's start with "There Goes Another Love Song"
HT - Monte and I wrote that song. We were playing in Atlanta at the time. We had not made our first record yet. Monte came into the hotel room and said "I got it! I got it! I got it!". Jokingly I said "You need to go to the docter then!" He goes "No. No. No!" and he sang the chorus for me. I was like "That's really good Monte" and he said "Well, that's all I got". I said "Let me see what I can do" and I wrote the rest of the song - the music and the verses. That's how that song came to be.
NCV - Green Grass and High Tides....
HT - I wrote that in St. Augustine, Florida. I went over there with some friends on a weekend just to stay on the beach and just hang out. I didn't take a guitar like a dummy. I couldn't get to sleep that night. It was a beautiful night out - waves were breaking on the beach. All of a sudden I got this idea in my head and I wrote the lyrics without a guitar. Then when we got back home after the weekend I grabbed a guitar and started working on the music. It actually came together pretty quick. It was actually a short song to begin with - maybe 4 minutes. Then Billy Jones added some parts and the song grew and grew into what it became on the first record. I don't know if you're familiar with the Outlaws live record, but the song grew to 17 minutes on that record. With that song, it was fun to play and what we did was use these musical cues. If Billy was having a great night and wanted to play longer - he could play as long as he wanted to. Then when we got to a certain lick, we all knew it was time to change and it was time for Hughie to play. I would do the same thing. If you weren't having such a good night, you would play your regular solo and do your cue and get out. That was real fun. We love playing that song and it became longer and longer. The guitars got crazier and crazier. It was out of control. I loved it and it still happens to this day with that song with Chris Anderson and I playing. The classic solos are still in there but they are now embellished. We're using musical cues again so if we feel like stretching out and playing longer we can do it. Everybody in the band knows what's going on. We do that with "Ghost Riders in the Sky" too. It's one of those things that, if you learn to do that, you jam a little bit and you don't play the same thing every night. People like that. It makes it interesting and it keeps things fresh.
NCV - So what can someone expect when they come to see the Outlaws?
HT - Alot of high energy rock and roll. You will hear all the hits and some of the new songs as well. We aim to deliver a high quality and fun show that will leave a smile on your face.
NCV - Any thing you would like to say to the fans out there?
HT - Thank you for all of the years of support in both The Outlaws and Lynyrd Skynyrd. I really have been blessed by having the luxury of doing what I love for a living. A big thank you goes out to the fans out there for making that happen. If it wasn't for them, none of this would be possible.

Carrie Rodriguez - Seven Angels on a Bicycle cd review
Carrie Rodriguez - SEVEN ANGELS ON A BICYCLE
Back Porch Records
Carrie Rodriguez is someone you should know about. Her SEVEN ANGELS ON A BICYCLE cd, which is out on Back Porch Records, has been getting rave reviews from country, bluegrass, Americana, folk, and even a few rockabilly audiences everywhere. Her voice ranges from smooth as silk to sharp as glass - depending on how the mood of the song is. SEVEN ANGELS ON A BICYCLE leaves you with a visual mindset of sitting and relaxing on a log cabin porch in the middle of the Smoky Mountains somewhere enjoying life - away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Depending on which song you listen to on the cd - you have Americana, folk, bluegrass, and even a good rockabilly song called "Never Gonna Be Your Bride" to pick from. In addition to her great vocals, Carrie also handles the fiddle duties on the cd. For some good down home music sung with a touch of twang and a fiddle as a backbone to the songs, then look no further than SEVEN ANGELS ON A BICYCLE. This is a top notch release that deserves to be heard. For more information check out www.carrierodriguez.com and www.backporchrecords.com

Wolfe - Delaware Crossing cd review
Wolfe - DELAWARE CROSSING
Ulftone Music
Wolfe is a heavy hitting blues band who have a cd out called DELAWARE CROSSING that has spent alot of time in my cd player. Led by former Sheryl Crow guitarist Todd Wolfe, this band smokes in the vein of Stevie Ray Vaughn. Blues Travelor frontman John Popper appears on the opening track "Stranger Blues" - smoking out some mean harmonica playing. In addition to his sizzling fretwork on the guitar, Todd also supplies the vocals and his voice reminds me of David Lee Roth of all people. 12 songs are on the disc and they are 12 blues barn burners. Great stuff and highly recommended to any fan that digs great jamming/guitar driven, blues songs that make you feel like firing up the Barbecue and partying with all of your friends.
